lately, i've taken a book binding class at Art Placement - this book is about 4 inches tall and 3 wide... ish....great fun - and really nice ladies who taught it - and i'm going to take the next one - intermediate book binding. that will be a sketch book - i really enjoy the process of the making of the whole thing - cover and all!
these are 2 of the papers that i bought there - this navy one is HUGE - 30 x 28ish and it's almost as thin as tissue but not quite, the colors are not quite right.... but it's got these lovely chunks of stuff floating through the paper. not sure what i'm going to do with it - but i got this sheet, and the next - which is a microwood maple. very very pretty. it rips really nice - and cuts well. haven't folded it yet... but really - at $2.50 for a sheet that's 28x20 - i couldn't leave it there could i?
i tried putting glimmer mist on it - that didn't work so well. duh - but i'm going to try distress inks next.
plus i got other sheets - one lime green thicker than tissue with silk threads strewn all over, one really super heavy handmade type with bit of currency, a parchment type, one heavy cardstock weight handmade blue with flowers in it, a leather looking forest green sheet.... there were lots of papers to choose from and with Art Placement having a paper sale.... welll ....
the one layout i've done lately. it's an 8x8 so a bit small, but still, i got the photos on paper instead of laying in my desk drawer.
the flowers were done with Cathie Allen's stamping on black technique. stamp in white, paint with white, stamp with black, color it in, stamp over again in black. She's got a new positioning system for the placement of the stamps, but tape and some blocks worked for me. i used folk art paint to paint in the background, then colored in the stamp with a paint brush and some distress inks. may just have to do this one again! i like the look of it.
